Natural, relaxed dog photography sessions in parks, trails, and coastal landscapes around Los Angeles.
Los Angeles is an incredible place to photograph dogs. Between the coastline, the hills above the city, and the many parks and trails throughout the area, there are countless beautiful outdoor locations where dogs can explore and be themselves.
A Los angeles outdoor dog session
The images below were photographed during a sunset session along the Los Angeles coast. Evening light is often the best time for outdoor dog photography — the light is softer, temperatures are cooler, and dogs tend to be more relaxed.
Great Locations for Dog Photography in the Los Angeles Area
Southern California offers an incredible variety of outdoor locations that work beautifully for dog photography sessions. Some of the most popular options include:
Coastal Locations
The Los Angeles coastline provides soft evening light, open space, and beautiful scenery. Certain beaches and coastal areas allow dogs, and nearby coastal trails can also provide excellent locations for relaxed outdoor sessions.
Parks and Trails
Large parks such as Griffith Park and the trails throughout the Santa Monica Mountains offer natural backdrops, hillside views, and quieter environments that work well for many dogs.
Scenic Overlooks
Hillside locations above the city can provide dramatic views and beautiful golden-hour light while still being easily accessible for most dogs.
When planning your session, we’ll choose a location that fits your dog’s personality, comfort level, and energy.
What to Expect During Your Session
Sessions are designed to be relaxed and enjoyable for both dogs and their humans.
A typical outdoor dog photography session includes:
phone planning session to pick the best location and learn about you and your pet
60–90 minute outdoor session
location planning based on your dog and preferred scenery
relaxed pacing so dogs can explore and settle into the environment
guidance for natural poses and candid moments
dogs photographed alone and with their people
Most sessions take place in the evening near sunset, when the light is soft and temperatures are cooler for dogs.
Preparing Your Dog for an Outdoor Session
You don’t need a perfectly trained dog for a great photography session. Some of the best moments happen when dogs are simply being themselves.
Before the session, it helps if your dog:
has had some exercise earlier in the day
is comfortable on leash if required at the location
has a favorite toy or treat that helps keep their attention
In the planning call, we’ll discuss specifics for your dog. I’ll guide you through the process during the session so everything feels relaxed and natural.

About the Photographer
I’m Liz, the award-winning photographer behind TimePunk Pet Photography. While I’m based in Utah, I travel to Los Angeles several times each year and open a limited number of outdoor dog photography sessions during those visits.
These sessions are relaxed, unhurried, and focused on capturing your dog’s personality in a natural environment. Whether your dog loves exploring new places, running through the sand, or simply sitting beside you while watching the sunset, the goal is to create photographs that feel genuine and timeless.
Dogs are always welcome to bring their humans along for the adventure.
